Founder Soronko Solutions Regina Agyare on CNN African Start-Up


Every week, CNN African Start-Up follows entrepreneurs in various countries across Africa to share their stories on working to make their business dreams become reality.

This week, the show has the spotlight on Ghana's leading technology entrepreneur Regina Agyare. She describes her decision back in 2012 to leave her well-paid job at a major international bank in Ghana's capital Accra to follow her dream and embark on her own entrepreneurial journey. Having worked for six years as the bank's only female IT specialist, Regina quit to focus on her startup, Soronko Solutions.

"My friends thought I was crazy," recalls Agyare. "But I was like, 'this is it!'"
Regina who is one of Ghana's first female tech entrepreneurs had to overcome many challenges in starting her business  one of which is breaking the gender barrier in her country.

Soronko Solutions  creates websites and e-commerce portals. Regina has also started an initiative called "Tech Needs Girls" teaching young girls in poor areas how to code. She discusses why there should be more women working in techology and plans to expand the business beyond Ghana.
